From http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/13/AR2006031301117.html:
NEW YORK -- Isaac Hayes has quit "South Park," where he voices Chef, saying he can no longer stomach its take on religion.

"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins," the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said.
I think the operative phrase is highlighted above.

Of course, the best quote is from Matt Stone:
Because, you know, it's true. That's what I love about South Park--they're equal opporunity offenders. No one is safe, there is no sacred cow they won'd sodomize. That (and they obvious talent for doing it) is what make the show good.
Wonder who they're going to get to replace him... or if this is just some wild publicity stunt... does Hayes have a CD coming out soon?

Agreed. Puts me in mind of Mel Brooks - "Blazing Saddles" is, to me, the quintessential example of how to offend absolutely everybody and get away with it.

Why did he never say anything about all the other religions the show mocks? I hate it when people do that- get pissed off that they are being mocked and claim they are pissed about some bigger issue.
